JEFF
JOHNSON
Jeff Johnson grew up in the East Bay of San Francisco during the 70’s and 80’s era of skateboarding. It was a dynamic time. The early 80’s in particular, when skateboarding virtually disappeared, were the years that truly defined what it means to be a skater today.
In 2007 Jeff received and email with a link to YouTube. It was a video of he and his friends skating a backyard pool back in 1987. The group of guys cc’d on that email began scanning all their photographs and sharing them on the email chain. Jeff dragged all the images onto his desktop with the idea that this could be a book one day. After 10 years of collecting images and stories, it has finally come to fruition with the first printing of Way High Kick Turn and the first publication for Beyond and Back Press.
Today Jeff works as a photographer, writer and director, based out of California and Hawaii. He still skates when he’s not surfing or climbing.
